Eight years ago I was asked by my pastor, John Rose if Candace and I would consider helping start a new church in Chula Vista. With our first child being only 10 mos., and no prospects of income we made the plunge into the unknown. We weren’t exactly sure of the details, but we knew Rancho Vista was where God was calling us to be.
Some of you know that church planting can be exhilarating, debilitating, satisfying, frustrating, joyful and a lot of hard work. But one thing I can say in spite of it all is I have enjoyed being part of a ministry that has been used by God to change lives. This is why it is so difficult for me to write the next sentence. Effective December 13 I will be stepping down as worship leader at Rancho Vista Church.
So you are probably asking why? Rather than writing all of the reasons why we are leaving, here is a video I sent to our worship team explaining myself.

Hey Steve,
I continue to have an extreme mix of gratitude for your awesome ministry and servants heart – and depression over having to head-butt someone else when we bail a great worship service. More amazing thank your musical gifts are your deep love for God and his people. Love ya man!

I too will miss the head bumps…I think (ouch). It has been an honor to serve with you. Even when have not seen eye to eye we still focused on the bigger goal of glorifying God and leading others to Him.
Love you bro!.

Hi Steve,
I was feeling a bit nostalgic. I wanted to see what you were up to! Wow! I am more convinced than ever that the ONLY thing constant in our lives is change. God continues to grow us!
In about an 2 and 1/2 hours I leave for church. Another Christmas Eve service. The NHPB does the 5:00 oclock service now. No pressure and very relaxed. I still remember that first Christmas Eve service with NHPB where everyone was in the back going over the songs at the last minute! We are more relaxed about it now.
I have been doing this for 15 years too (Sam is 15 now so that is how I know this). So I know you have been doing it for a lot longer! I am convinced that NHPB is much more than just a worship team. It is one of God’s instruments to help those involved grow.
My middle son Nathan (17 — do you believe it?) just started playing drums with us. And Bill Mingst has just rejoined us (back from IOWA). We have a new music director at church and she plays with and leads the band. Tom Ivory still rocks! Our current lineup is
Wendy Kallen – Vocals, Keys/Piano, Music Director
Kathy Askins – Vocals
Tom Ivory – Lead guitar
Bruce Hasslinger – Electric Guitar
Bill Mingst – Vocals, Electric/Acoustic Guitar
Nathan Robinson – Drums
Tom Robinson – Vocals/Acoustic Guitar
Steve and Candace and kids — Hope you have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.
Love, Peace, and Joy
